visiting mount carmel

📍 Waco, Texas • 🏚️ Historic sites • 🕯️ Modern history • ⚖️ True events

The site is known as Mount Carmel Center, just outside Waco, Texas

Not an easy place to visit, but an important one.

I visited the site of the 1993 Waco siege, where David Koresh led the Branch Davidians. Today, the area is quiet, with a small memorial and rebuilt chapel marking where the compound once stood.

The siege lasted 51 days and ended in a fire that killed more than 70 people, including Koresh. Visiting in person adds a different perspective—it’s less about headlines and more about understanding how isolated communities and strong leadership can shape events in unexpected ways.
