MY REVIEW
Today I’m reviewing Simon the Scared Rottweiler by Nicole S. Kluemper, Ph.D., a heartwarming picture book about a young Rottweiler who discovers that even the bravest dogs can feel scared sometimes.
Simon has one of those days where everything seems to go wrong. A bad dream, a surprise fire alarm, a stressful test, bullies, and spooky ghost stories leave him feeling anxious and overwhelmed. Just when he’s ready to give up, an older friend named Angie shows him a few simple tricks to help calm his worries and see things differently.
What I enjoyed most about this story was how honest Simon’s fears felt. Many young readers will recognize those nervous feelings, whether it’s worrying about school, sleepovers, or things that go bump in the night. The book handles these emotions with warmth, humor, and understanding.
The illustrations are bright, cheerful, and full of personality. Simon is an adorable character, and every page helps bring his journey to life.
With its positive message and practical coping tools, Simon the Scared Rottweiler is more than just a story. It’s a gentle reminder that being brave isn’t about never feeling afraid. It’s about learning that you can handle whatever comes your way. I found this to be a thoughtful and reassuring read for children and families alike.
