I went with my brother to the US Open Men’s Quarterfinals at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens. I watched Andy Murray vs. Stanislas Wawrinka. It was such an awesome vibe, even Sean Connery was in the crowd! They played James Bond music during one of the breaks, he was smiling, it was loads of fun 🙂 I was shocked with Murray’s performance, he looked like he just gave up half way through. I couldn’t believe he mangled yet another racket, but I would too if I was up against Wawrinka who was playing near-flawless tennis. He deserves his place in the semi finals!
So I was very stoked to hear that “The Starlit Path” was selected by Travel Start SA as one of the most underrated travel blogs of last month 🙂 I am personally a huge fan of www.travelstart.co.za , so I was absolutely delighted when I heard this news!
What’s also really exciting is that they’re currently running a competition for travel bloggers for 2 free flight tickets! Using only 300-1000 words to tell a story about a personal travel experience, here is my entry:
I went to an incredible nightclub the other night here in New York called “Hudson Terrace“. That’s 621 West 46th Street. As a South African, I’m so thankful to have friends here who have connections to get us in the club for free (put us on a guest list so we don’t wait in line; we just walk in) because entrance to these places starts at $30! The drinks I find are also expensive – a glass of white wine can begin at $12! For my South African readers, you know how expensive this is and all these costs really add up. So that being said, I’m thrilled I have wonderful people who get me into these places and have tables waiting stocked with ice buckets and alcohol in VIP sections. Since starting at the New York Film Academy I have really enjoyed my time in New York. The classes are highly intensive. NYFA has various campuses across the city; up to now my classes have been at “Pearl Studios” and I have classes this week at the SOHO campus in Union Square. I will write more about my course soon!
I celebrated my birthday in New York! My favorite moment was at a rooftop bar for my called “230 on 5th avenue”. It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to. I would recommend that if you have anything you want to celebrate in New York, this is the place to go! Check out their website. I also really enjoyed the “Hudson Hotel” … I suggest starting at the “Tequila Park” then working your way over to the “Sky Terrace” and finally ending up in the “Hudson Common” like we did 🙂 Here is their website and the address is 356 West 58th Street. (Needless to say the evening began with a bottle of proudly South African Graham Beck Brut…..you can take the girl out of South Africa, but you can’t take South Africa out of the girl…..!)
