Virtual Valentines With A Female Pharaoh
First female ruler of ancient Egypt to reign as a male, with the full authority of a male, was Hatshepsut. Likened to Cleopatra who would rule 14 centuries later, Hatshepsut was only the 3rd woman to become Pharaoh in over 3,000 years of ancient Egyptian history. She wanted to be depicted as a male in many sculptures and images and she was most well-known for extending Egyptian trade and ambitious building projects. Happy Valentine’s Day!
