The time has come. We are in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. That means you can do something to stand up for a cause you believe in. Domestic Violence is rampant throughout the world. Show your support April 29th + walk across Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall with tons of other fashionistas, bloggers, celebrities, students + designers. Take a photo of yourself in your denim outfit + use the hashtags #DenimDay #DenimDayNYC #FWBK. Fashion Week Brooklyn is championing the cause in New York. The Spring fashion trends from the US are catching up with us, now that it’s our Spring here. Here’s what’s trending now in our stores. You can find these trends making an appearance at the big chain stores (Woolworths, Edgars, Zara) as well as the smaller boutiques such as Mungo & Jemima on the corner of Church Street/Longstreet in Cape Town. One of my favourite SA designers right now is Marianne Fassler whose Spring/Summer 2014 collection focuses on Afro Chic prints. I could definitely see myself in a few of her pieces. Coming up in Johannesburg is the SA Fashion Week from 15-18 October. It will showcase the Autumn/Winter 2015 collections from over forty SA designers. Follow its Facebook page here. You can also diarise the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa which is happening 29 October-1 November at Melrose Arch. Follow its Facebook page here.

Pastel colours. These include pastel, cotton candy and bubblegum pinks. Expect sweetened silhouettes, touchable textures and a feeling of whimsy and feminine.
Nicholas Coutts is a South African fashion designer who has a great collection this season with some metallic designs if you’re into this trend. He was the Elle Magazine “Rising Star 2013” winner. Follow his Facebook page here.
The standout shade was a hit on the catwalk of New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2014, securing its place as a hit Spring trend. Models were dressed from head to toe in the crisp colour from designers such as Phillip Lim, Thakoon, Derek Lam, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Rucci, Victoria Beckham and more. I write more on how to wear white and rock it here.
