Pairing Eye-Shadows Like A Pro
I’ve never been a makeup expert. This changed a little when I got into the film industry 3 years ago. In such a space, us ladies always want to look our best! I’ve needed to learn some basics. Here are a few tips I can pass on to you. One thing I find amazing is the difference a bit of eye shadow can make. It’s crazy how you can make your eyes pop with a colour. These guidelines are great for when in the professional arena or for when you dress up to go out on the town.
Brown eyes
+ Teals
+ Purples
+ Browns
+ Yellows
Any shade actually works with brown. Lucky you!
Blue eyes
+ Blues
+ Silvers
+ Dark Greys / Ash (Smokey Eyes)
Green eyes
+ Purples
+ Golds
+ Browns
+ Dark Greens

Mixing & Matching Fonts for Design
Here are some great font pairing ideas for your next project. These are nice ideas for anything needing some sassy fonts which work well together for creative stuff like party invites, posters and blog or website design. It’s nice to have ideas for how to pair fonts from the design experts. Sometimes we don’t know what looks nice together. Just Google the font you like and download it from a site like dafont.com. I sourced these combos from Pinterest. I never thought I’d be interested in Graphic Design, but as I blogger I’ve had to be! I’m not too hectic, but I do love some inspiration for my simple projects. Follow my Graphic Design board here.

June Greetings
This past couple months has been very busy. On the Skybok front, we filmed a few awesome places to add to our database of online video profiles. Scoot over to our blog here and read about them. This includes work not only showcasing places here in Cape Town, but also work done at the Durban Travel Indaba. Read about it and see pictures here. I’ve done some voice work at my favourite studio, West Beach Studio, which is run by music producer Frank Smuts who also happens to be one of South Africa’s top triathletes! I did an awesome interview with Grootbos Nature Reserve who recently hosted me to blog about their 5-star luxury resort. Check out the interview here and read my article on the place here. Concurrent to that, I did an interview for HotelsCheap.org on what to expect when travelling to South Africa – read the interview here. On the PR / Social Media Management side of things, the RetroAfrika Bioscope has received some stunning news regarding their digitally remastered 1980’s South African film Joe Bullet; that it’s to be premiered at the Durban International Film Festival in July this year. Check out their press received here and their gallery of behind-the-scenes at the Waterfront Film Studios here. Up in Johannesburg, The Art Meets Fashion event took place at Constitution Hill and showcased some stunning work by local fashion designers and artists, following in the footsteps of its partner event up in New York. Read about my involvement as an ambassador for this cause here. International collaborations to strengthen ties between South Africa and the rest of the world in order to move us forward in the global arena in any and all creative spheres is something I feel passionately about. I feel we have a pool of undiscovered talent here. Modelling wise, I did a great hair shoot with Sarah Keogh who is an asset to her craft and always produces strong images. I’m looking forward to the BWA Awards (Business Women’s Association of South Africa) in which I’m a finalist in the category of “Emerging Entrepreneur” and whose ceremony is at The Crystal Towers here in Cape Town this week. On the blogging front, an exciting enterprise coming up is a campaign I’m taking part of with City Lodge Hotel Group, where there is talk of sponsoring me to travel to their hotels around the country and blog. Looking forward to a busy month ahead with lots of different projects! Hopefully I can provide you with some entertaining stories 😉
What have you been up to? Are you in the film industry here in SA?

Art Meets Fashion – Joburg
MyArts International will be hosting the Art Meets Fashion Joburg this Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th of June 2014 at the Constitution Hill (Basement). The event aims at creating a platform for collaboration in the creative industry and giving an opportunity to local visual artists, crafters , models and designers to showcase their talents in fashion, modelling, film, visual and performing arts.
The Art Meets Fashion Joburg will give entrepreneurs in the creative sector an opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs from different fields, trade and discuss about various opportunities and challenges in their field of work while sharing some drinks. The event will incorporate an arts exhibition, craft market, fashion showcase, modelling workshops and creative business expo. The mission of this program is to create a local and global partnership for development in order to foster job creation and to support the growth of new and existing businesses by providing capacity building information, tools and resources. Our focus is to develop and empower businesses within the arts fraternity and business sector in order to strengthen their business capability and survivability.
Modelling Workshop
A modelling workshop will be held on both days from 12:00 to 14:00. The aim is to give young men and women who are interested in modelling and fashion free information on the industry. The workshop will focus on photography, catwalk and tips about the modelling industry. Interested models must meet at the Constitution Hill at 11:00 to 11:30 for registration. The workshop is free as we believe that the door of culture and education shall be opened to all.
Fashion Activities
Designers from Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the North-West Province will showcase their garments during the various shows and fashion installations. Our relationship with the Brooklyn Style Foundation gives the participating designers an opportunity to showcase on the 4th of October 2014 at the Fashion Week Brooklyn in New York where the BK Style in partnership with MyArts will be hosting a South African show dedicated to the 20 Years of Freedom and Democracy.
Arts Promotion
The event will also include some promotional activities and Arts Development Forums where artists will be informally talking and networking while sharing drink and meals. MyArts International wants this event to serve as a platform to seek out and nurture young, disadvantaged artists and allowing them to reach their potential and enhance the world around them by setting an example of giving, hope and achievement. According the MyArts’ Chief Director, Mr. Denis Ackulay, artists will be celebrating the 20 years of Freedom and Democracy this weekend during the Art Meets Fashion Joburg. “It’s not just a platform for collaboration but also a weekend of celebration as SA celebrates youth months and 20 years.” Active citizenship is very important within the Art Fraternity. It is this generation’s task to reignite the true engine of the Millennium Development Goal #8, which is Global Partnerships for Development established under the United Nations 2015 Program. “We should think of restoring the ideal of people working together and collaborating and exchanging ideas,” he added. The event will also feature an Anti-Rhino Poaching Campaign with an auction where funds will be channels to Anti-Rhino Poaching Organisations.

Nelson Mandela Square
Hello from Gauteng! I’m currently up in Johannesburg after a crazy four days in Durban at the Travel Indaba for Skybok. This weekend my brother and I went for an ice cream at the famous Nelson Mandela Square in the Sandton City Mall. The name ‘Sandton’ is derived from a combination of Sandown and Bryanston. In less than 30 years, Sandton has become the most significant business and financial district in South Africa. It’s home to approximately 300 000 residents and 10 000 businesses including investment banks, top businesses, financial consultants, the Johannesburg stock exchange and one of the biggest convention centres on the African continent, the Sandton Convention Centre. I loved the Nelson Mandela statue in the centre of the square.
