MY REVIEW

Get ready for a dazzling adventure through art, history, and imagination in Jeanne Walker Harvey’s “The Glass Pyramid: A Story of the Louvre Museum and Architect I. M. Pei’’! This book is a total showstopper—perfect for curious kids who love big ideas, big dreams, and bold designs.

Told with heart and sparkle, this story follows I. M. Pei, a brilliant architect on a secret mission to redesign the world-famous Louvre Museum. But it’s not easy! He faces some serious challenges—grumpy critics, sneaky doubts, and even people who don’t like that he’s Chinese American. Still, Pei doesn’t give up. He studies gardens, dreams in two languages, and hatches a plan so epic it glows: a giant glass pyramid that changes everything.

Harvey’s storytelling is smooth and inspiring, and Khoa Le’s illustrations? Wow. They shine like sunlight through glass—full of glowing colors, grand buildings, and scenes that feel like stepping into a dream.

’‘The Glass Pyramid’’ isn’t just about architecture—it’s about staying true to yourself, solving tough problems with style, and proving that great ideas can come from anywhere. It’s a beautiful, powerful, and totally fun read that will leave kids feeling like they can build pyramids of their own (maybe not out of glass… but you get the idea!).

Don’t miss this stunning book—it’s a glowing tribute to creativity, courage, and the power of thinking big!

At the time, the Louvre had many problems and no pyramid.

Pei faced many obstacles, including discrimination because he was Chinese American. Determined to succeed and make the Louvre a welcome place for all, Pei worked hard—and sometimes in secret. This is the story of a visionary who worked patiently and persistently to solve problems and achieve his goals: to plant and grow a glass pyramid.
