MY REVIEW

Careful what you open. That innocent-looking book on Luella’s shelf? It’s no bedtime story—it’s a portal. And when Luella drags her best friend, Lino, inside, they tumble into one wild adventure after another: chasing a lost leprechaun, dodging pirates on the high seas, escaping screeching bats in a pitch-black cave. Each page flips them into someplace new, and you never know what’s waiting on the other side.

Tara Lala writes with the kind of excitement that grabs kids fast. The story barrels forward with just the right mix of danger, wonder, and laughs. Beneath all the thrills is a theme parents and teachers will love: books are magic. They can take you anywhere. They can even turn a phone-loving skeptic like Lino into a true believer.

The illustrations by Francesca Pesci are bright, bold, and cinematic. They don’t just decorate the story—they throw you into it. Castles tower, flowers loom, fairies sparkle, and every portal feels like it’s pulling you off the page right alongside Luella and Lino.

What I love most is how personal this book feels. Tara Lala clearly remembers what it’s like to lose yourself in stories—and she invites kids to feel that same rush. Luella’s Library is part fantasy, part friendship story, and all heart. A book about books, packed with adventure, and just the right amount of “what’s hiding in the dark?”

If you’re looking for a story to make kids ditch their screens and dive headfirst into reading—this is it.
