MY REVIEW

Today’s review is about The Magic of Diwali With Saara, a glowing read for kids aged 3–8 who want to step right into the heart of this beautiful festival, which takes place every year in October or November. Saara wakes up on Diwali morning buzzing with questions, and that curiosity propels her and her adorable pup, Oreo, on a quest to find out more. She doesn’t simply watch the celebration; she investigates it. She asks her parents, her grandparents, and slowly uncovers what Diwali truly means: light, gratitude, family, and togetherness. Celebrated by hundreds of millions across India and the global diaspora, Diwali is one of the world’s most widely observed festivals, and this book makes that global celebration feel warm, personal, and easy for young readers to understand.

The story gently introduces the mythological stories linked to Diwali and explains why families light diyas to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness — of good over evil. The story is supported by bright, joyful illustrations that invite children into Saara’s world, helping them see and feel the celebration. The story is an effortless read, and I highly recommend it for readers of every background who want to learn more about the meaning behind the customs of this magical day.

DID YOU KNOW?

Diwali is celebrated in October or November, based on the Hindu lunar calendar, usually on the darkest new-moon night of the month of Kartik.

Diwali actually lasts for five days! The main day is on the third day, but each day has its own special significance.

Diwali is primarily dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. People clean and decorate their homes in the hopes that Lakshmi will visit and bring them good fortune.

In some places, a fun activity involves lighting a special circle of firecrackers to form a “ring of fire.” This is a cool way to celebrate and show the power of light over darkness.
