The first recorded Valentine was sent in 1415 by Charles d’Orléans to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London

Having lived in Texas for seven years, I’ve learned that we’re completely spoiled when it comes to romantic escapes. This vast region stretches across more than 31,000 square miles and includes over 25 charming small towns, hundreds of wineries, and some of the most scenic drives in the state, all within easy reach of Austin.

Wimberley, tucked among rolling hills and cypress-lined rivers, is one of its true hidden gems. The best time to visit Wimberley for Valentine’s Day is this weekend, February 14, when the quiet Hill Country town fills with romantic energy and special events. This year, the town hosts Taste of Wimberley (Feb 14–22), a week-long celebration where local restaurants offer special menus and experiences across town. Couples can also find Valentine meal specials, like the three-course sharing menu at Claude’s (Feb 13–15), featuring heart-shaped pizza and dessert for two. For something different, there’s a glamorous Valentine’s murder mystery dinner on February 14 — a masked evening of clues, secrets, and romance. Would you do it?
