The line between work and vacation is getting a little blurry.
In 2026, more travelers are choosing to work during their trips, turning an ordinary vacation into what’s sometimes called a workcation.
Recent travel research found that 34% of travelers plan to work during their longest summer trip, up from 23% in 2025. Among millennials, that jumps to 57%.
And it doesn’t necessarily mean sitting inside a hotel room answering emails all day.
For some travelers, working remotely means staying somewhere for longer. You might spend the morning working from an apartment in Portugal, then close your laptop at 3 p.m. and head to the beach. Or extend a five-day vacation into two weeks because you can work for part of it.
Hotels are catching on too, with reliable Wi-Fi, proper workspaces and longer-stay packages becoming increasingly important.
Of course, there is one obvious danger: your vacation quietly turning back into work. 😂
But done properly, a workcation can give you something traditional travel often can’t: more time somewhere you love.
