These ducks are all over the paths + meadows of Christchurch Cathedral in Oxford! Christchurch College’s alumni include Lewis Carroll + W.H. Auden.

Did You Know?

The Duck was a symbol of Isis, the Egyptian goddess who was a patron of nature and magic. The following quote is taken from the book ‘The Burden of Isis’ which was published in 1910: “Thy duck, thy sister, Isis, produceth the sweet odours belonging to thee and with thee, Yet thy way doth not tend toward us, oh our lord!”

Austin birds

Taken downtown Austin!

There are a lot of grackles (the “great tailed grackle” and known by some as “the devil bird”). Grackles are a “colonizing” bird and gather in large flocks. They have been migrating north and west from south Texas and Mexico.

snow in jerseysnow in jersey

Being in New York this time of year, I’m seeing snow literally for the second time in my life. I love it, I just really wish it wasn’t so cold! It’s around – 12 °C for my South African readers. I bought a cute fur headband from Macy’s + some leather gloves, they’ve helped a lot. Apparently Feb 15th was the coldest day in New York history in 20 years! Here are some photos from around Battery Park, Central Park, New York’s Theatre District + Jersey City.

South Africa Stunned After Oscar Verdict is Given

Reeva Steenkamp

After quite an emotional week for the country, with the Oscar Pistorius verdict, I’m hoping to simply wind down this weekend. I still don’t know what to believe. A lot of my friends overseas aren’t convinced he’s telling the truth. The papers here were critical of him being cleared. Reeva was in the industry I’m in, not to mention she was from my home town! It’s my aunt in the courtroom sitting next to her mother. Here are some interesting links for you:
