A cheetah resting on the grass in a natural setting, partially obscured by a fence and surrounded by green foliage.

I went on safari at Kragga Kamma Game Park and filmed a cheetah doing something completely unexpected: meowing. Almost overnight, the video went viral—and it has now reached 6 million views! I think that’s exactly why people loved it: nobody expects one of Africa’s fastest cats to sound so much like a house cat.

Fun fact: cheetahs cannot roar. Instead, they chirp, purr and meow to communicate.

Kragga Kamma is magical in its own right: its animals roam freely through coastal forest and grassland, yet the park is only minutes from the city. One tiny cheetah meow from South Africa somehow travelled around the world.
