This exquisite hotel is ranked “Highest in Guest Satisfaction Among Upper Upscale Hotel Chains” by J.D. Power 2015 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Study. I can see why! Have a look at its website for more photos, especially if you’re planning your vacation or wedding in Texas!

My Opinion

This is a seductively broody, romantic Spanish luxury hotel. Rooms are right on the water, making every morning a delight as you wake up to sounds of the busy River Walk and a view of water (often with tourist boats floating by!). There for Fiesta? Check out this post of mine. The day I was there it rained + I couldn’t get enough of the smell of the river combined with the wet soil coming from the resort’s tropical plant life. Have a look at the spacious pool area, decorative archways + old style Spanish paintings at the reception area.

The staff were particularly helpful, always willing to share knowledge of the hotel and vibrant surrounds, which included popular restaurants like  Ostra with its nearby Mokara Spa and various tourist activities (often including the river!).

History

It began as a school + opened its doors in 1853. It opened its doors as a luxury hotel in 1968. They do scheduled history tours of the property if you’re interested!!

Day Excursions/Activities

Nearby is the Alamo, Horse & Carriage Rides & a scenic River Walk.

The hotel also offers a Rio Package Cruise which is so much fun!
