I was honoured to receive an award as a finalist at this year’s Business Women’s Association of South Africa’s Regional Business Achiever Awards. Held at The Crystal Towers in Cape Town, I was thrilled to receive this recognition of distinction in business as an entrepreneur in the film industry! Skybok is all about connecting South Africa. I look forward to our exciting future doing so. I am very blessed that I was able to turn something I am passionate about into a profitable venture. It’s exciting to have been named in amidst such successful women across the region in all industries. I am proudly South African and marvel each day at our beautiful country and our people. Thank you, BWA! See more of my pics from the event here.
With a population of over 3 million people, Madrid is the stunning capital city of Spain. It enjoys more cloudless days than almost any other city in Europe. Certainly during the time I spent there, I didn’t experience a drop of wind or rain. I went with my mother around this time last year – the best time for long warm summer nights. We stayed in “Hotel Catalonia Gran Via” along Gran Via – an upscale shopping street in central Madrid. It’s always a thrill travelling, and Madrid was one of my best thrills yet!
I had a wonderful shoot this past week with Patrick Ryan Photography in Cape Town for Brooklyn Fashion Week & My Arts International in their collaboration to strengthen ties between South Africa and New York. This partnership is under the UN Millennium 2015 Program and sees a host of fashion-related events in both cities. I’m very proud to be the South African ambassador for this movement and to be working with them on organising the “Art Meets Fashion Event” in Johannesburg this year (the first of many events the two nations have partnered to do).
The event offers a platform for fashion designers and artists to showcase their work, trade and network. Taking place at Constitution Hill, The Star newspaper has taken the title sponsorship of the event in Johannesburg, officially making it “The Star Art Meets Fashion Joburg”. Shooting in Simonstown at the Old Navy Base, we were very pleased for Longstreet Fashion Store to come on board (stores in Cavendish, Tygervalley, V&A Waterfront) and supply the clothing for the shoot. Other events this year include:
Arts Meets Fashion, Johannesburg (Trade, Exhibitions, Arts Development Workshops)| 24 & 25 April 2014, Johannesburg
Arts Meets Fashion, Cape Town (Trade, Exhibitions, Arts Development Workshops) | 1 & 2 May 2014, Cape-Town
SA Lifestyle Expo “Taste of AfriKa” (incorporating Mandela day celebration) | 17 & 18 July 2014, New York
Hollywood Black Film Festival – Afrika (Film workshops, Screening, Talent scouting, Nomination for HBFF awards) | August 2014, South Africa (Venue TBC)
Arts Meets Fashion, New York | September 2014, New York
Fashion Week Brooklyn | October 2014, Brooklyn
Hollywood Black Film Festival | October 2014, Los Angeles
Lisbon was one of the most magical, enchanting places I’ve been to. It’s one of the oldest cities in the world. It’s definitely one of the oldest cities in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by hundreds of years. They love their sardines… and I was explicitly told by a local that I wouldn’t truly experience Lisbon if I didn’t experience their char-grilled sardines (with lemon and sea salt).
GUESS is a brand that’s always inspired me. We did a bit of its style in a recent shoot in East Village New York with John Tona at http://www.johntona.com/
I’ll never forget when I went to London in 2012 to compete in Top Model UK. What an exciting time in one of the best cities of the world! I was there for a few weeks for the show and stayed in the Hilton Hotel, London Metropole. During my free time, I made sure I dressed warm because it was the middle of winter and it was so chilly outside!
The All Important Birthday
I’ve recently been invited to a 21st birthday celebration. I always get excited for occasions because it’s a reason to spoil your loved one and show them how much you care. Of course, the quest to find the perfect gift for my friend has begun and I’ve just struck gold with a fabulous idea!
I’m currently helping a photography grad student at the school with his final thesis project …. portraits & body shots. Can’t wait to see the pictures when they’re done 🙂 We shot at a studio in SOHO, Manhattan, and I think we ended up shooting until midnight from being there in the afternoon! I did my own make-up for this. I used Rimmel ‘Special Eyes’ Black Eye Liner, Estee Lauder Double Wear Mascara, Clinique ‘Precious Posy’ Blush, Maybelline ‘Pink Quartz’ Lipstick and for my foundation I used Estee Lauder ‘Pale Almond’ Futurist.
I’m so thrilled to be in class in New York with well-known soapie star Jorge Consejo, who is most famous for his roles on various TV soap operas in Mexico on the “Telemundo” Network. It’s such a pleasure working with him in class – I’m learning a lot! Now he is moving to New York and setting his sights on working in the film industry here. I have no doubt he will be very successful!! Check out his Twitter and his official website.
