Speaking of celestial wonders, the last big event was the solar eclipse, and I was lucky enough to experience it in one of the most magical places—New Orleans. 🐊🎷 The city’s unique energy, with its mix of mystery and celebration, made it the perfect backdrop for such a breathtaking moment. 🌟

What is Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year, often referred to as the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, is one of the most important traditional holidays celebrated in many East Asian cultures, including China, Vietnam, Korea and others.

It marks the beginning of a new year based on the lunar calendar, which follows the cycles of the moon.

How It’s Celebrated:

• Family Reunions: Families gather for festive meals, often including symbolic foods like dumplings (wealth) and fish (abundance).
• Red Envelopes: Elders give red envelopes (hongbao) containing money to children and younger family members as a symbol of good luck.
• Decorations: Homes are adorned with red decorations, lanterns, and banners to ward off bad luck.
• Festivals: Traditional celebrations include lion and dragon dances, firecrackers, and parades.
• Traditions: Many people clean their homes before the holiday to sweep away bad luck and welcome positive energy for the new year.

  Date: January 26, 2025
  Details: Wu Chow hosts a celebration with light appetizers, special cocktails, and a lion dance performance. The event is free with an RSVP, with a suggested donation benefiting New Hope Animal Rescue. 
• Lunar New Year Cooking Class at Central Market Cooking School
  Date: January 29, 2025
  Details: Learn to prepare dishes symbolizing prosperity and good fortune, including Northern-style dumplings and lo mein. Participants 21 and over can enjoy a glass of wine with their meal. 

Intergalactic Milkshake Recipe

After immersing yourself in Lunar New Year festivities, treat yourself to a fun and colorful Intergalactic Milkshake. Here’s a simple recipe to create this cosmic delight at home:

Ingredients:

• 2 cups vanilla ice cream
• 1 cup whole milk
• 2 tablespoons condensed milk
• 1 teaspoon edible glitter (assorted colors)
• Whipped cream (for topping)
• Optional: food coloring to create galaxy hues (blue, purple, pink)

Instructions:

1. Blend Base: In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, whole milk, and condensed milk. Blend until smooth.
2. Add Color (Optional): If you’d like to create a galaxy effect, divide the mixture into separate bowls and add a few drops of different food coloring to each. Stir until the colors are evenly distributed.
