Some places feel like a world of their own, untouched by time yet woven into the rhythm of the city. The Commodore Perry Estate in Austin is one of them—a haven of old-world charm, where garden roses bloom lazily in the Texas sun, and fairy lights twinkle like fireflies after dusk.

I arrived with a book in hand—Why Wolves Matter by Karen Winnick—ready for a quiet literary retreat in the estate’s sprawling gardens. A glass of deep red wine rested beside me as I turned the pages, the scent of roses drifting through the warm air. Wolves, like wild spaces, are often misunderstood, quietly shaping ecosystems in ways we rarely notice.

Why Wolves Matter is one of many books I review each month in partnership with The Children’s Book Review. Since launching my own children’s book, I’ve come to appreciate just how vital reviews are for authors, and I was honored when they asked me to work with them.

Sharing and supporting fellow authors has become a passion. You can read my full review of this book here, and for quick, one-minute video reviews of other children’s books on the market now, check out my Instagram here. WILD SPACES

It feels fitting, then, that Austin itself is soon celebrating the arrival of spring with the Zilker Botanical Garden’s annual ‘Woodland Faerie Trail’ staring in May. It’s a whimsical tribute to the unseen forces of nature. I can’t wait to see it!
