Gorgeous Christmas decoration up in this little town outside Austin!

What is Fredericksburg known for?

+ National Historic District

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the district has over 80 points of historic interest and significance in the district.

+ Award-winning wineries

This town can be compared to the winelands of Stellenbosch + Franschhoek just outside Cape Town. Read more on my adventures in these areas here. In the heart of Hill Country Texas, this affluent area with a rich German history is speckled with gorgeous vineyards + wine spots.

+ Pioneer Museum

Filled with German artifacts of the area’s rich heritage, one can get lost in the life of Fredericksburg through exploration of historic structures, authentic objects + photographs. Several times a year, the Pioneer Museum will hold events staffed by docents in period dress that are fun for the whole family including storytelling, rope making, soap making, sheep shearing and more. Prior arrangements required for special tours of other historic homes and sites owned by the Gillespie County Historical Society. View their website here for more about their upcoming Christmas ball (Dec 12) + candlelight tour (Dec 26).
